Getting Started
What is Eko?
Eko is an AI automation app for macOS and web workflows. It completes repeatable tasks across the apps and websites you already use.
What is vision automation?
Vision automation lets Eko understand and interact with what is visible on your screen, without relying only on APIs, fixed selectors, or recorded coordinates.
What can Eko automate?
Eko can automate tasks across web portals, desktop apps, forms, documents, tables, and multi-app workflows.
What platforms does Eko support?
Eko currently supports Apple Silicon Macs.
Where can I download Eko?
Select Download for Mac on the Eko website to get the latest macOS installer.
Does Eko update automatically?
Yes. Eko checks for updates and notifies you when a new version is ready. Restart the app to apply the update.
Account and Sign-In
Do I need both the web app and desktop app?
Yes. The desktop app runs workflows, while the web app manages your account, billing, usage, and support.
How do I sign in to the desktop app?
The desktop app opens the Eko web app in your browser. After signing in, your account is securely linked to the desktop app.
Why does sign-in open in my browser?
Browser sign-in provides a consistent and secure account experience across the web and desktop apps.
What should I do if sign-in does not return to the desktop app?
Confirm that Eko is installed and try signing in again. Contact support if the desktop app still does not reconnect.
Permissions and Security
Why does Eko need macOS permissions?
Eko may require:
- Accessibility to click and type.
- Screen Recording to understand the visible screen.
- Automation to interact with macOS and other applications.
Can I skip the permissions?
Yes, but workflows may fail or screenshots may appear blank until the required permissions are granted.
What should I do if permissions are enabled but Eko still cannot automate?
Remove Eko from the relevant macOS permission list, add it again, and restart the app.
Does Eko bypass application permissions?
No. Eko works only within the access and permissions you provide.
Are AI provider keys stored in the desktop app?
No. AI requests are processed through Eko's managed service. Provider API keys are not exposed to the desktop app.
Creating and Running Workflows
What is a workflow?
A workflow is a sequence of steps that Eko follows to complete a task.
What kinds of steps can I add?
You can open apps and websites, click elements, fill fields, capture values, compose messages, use conditions, and retrieve the current date or time.
Does every application need an API?
No. Eko can work with applications through their visible interface, even when an API is unavailable.
What are variables?
Variables store information captured or created during a workflow so it can be reused in later steps.
How do I use a variable?
Reference it using its variable name, such as @order_id or @customer_name.
Can I review a completed workflow run?
Yes. Run history shows the status, duration, failed steps, captures, and other run details.
What happens if a step fails?
The run is marked as failed, and the run details identify the affected step and error message.
